Objection overruled

I posted something about this on Facebook earlier this week and I wanted to share it here, as well. However, this gives me a little bit more of an opportunity to elaborate.

I have been listening to a sermon series by Pastor Steven Furtick called "Greater." It's about "dreaming big, starting small, and igniting God's vision for your life." To say that it has been world-changing for me is an understatement. I love it when God uses something from someone else to minister to you in a powerful way.

In the third sermon of the series, entitled "Upon further review," he uses the analogy of a court system. He says that so many times, God promises something and we continually object to it. The example that I gave from my own experience is that God has promised me a wonderful man of God that will love me like Christ loved the church. Although I know that God meant what He said, my flesh still objects to it. I say thinks like:

  • I'm not worth keeping.
  • He'll just "love" me and leave me.
  • I'm not pretty enough (or smart enough, or skinny enough, etc.).
  • I don't deserve it.
It is almost sickening how we do that to ourselves. God speaks so much life into us, yet we strangle it. We can't always blame it on the enemy, either...usually it is just us that gets in the way. The analogy that he gives is that every time we object, God overrules our objection with His promises and His Word.

For instance, I know that God paid a high price for me and that my worth is far beyond that of rubies. He calls me "beautifully and wonderfully made" and loves me just as I am. He also calls all men of God to love their wives as Christ loved the church. He continuously overrules each and every single objection that I have, as long as I care to listen.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in ourselves that we forget to listen. I know most of the time, I am so selfish in my relationship with the Lord. I take, take, and take some more, yet He keeps on giving.

What are you objecting to that God is trying to overrule? I challenge you to examine your life and pray that God reveals to you which of His promises you say that you believe, but are lacking in faith for. Feel free to comment, if you like!

Love you with my whole heart.
